UGANDA : Soro gives Rez Life rude welcome

The biggest thrill of sports comes when players enjoy themselves and Geoffrey Soro manifested this and more on Monday.
The Ndejje University Angels forward wore a wide smile as his side trounced Rez Life 81-58 in the MTN-Fuba League at YMCA court.
Rez Life have just returned to the men’s top tier after relegation to Division Two as Berkley at the end of the 2010 season.
Little has changed for them and basing on the opening game, a tough seven months awaits them. Soro has stepped up his game as his 26 points and 18 rebounds showed.
“As a team, we are trying to do things that favour him. He is our go to guy now,” Ndejje coach Walker Obedi revealed. Obedi lost Cyrus Kiviri (personal reasons), their major scorer of the past two seasons.
But with Soro clicking on every move, Kiviri’s absence was hardly felt on the night. A sworn admirer of Warriors’ centre Henry Malinga, a Fuba League legend, Soro also translated his energy into an assist and two blocks.

Running game
In between all this, he was so loud that his teammates didn’t need to see him first before dishing the ball. Chaka Jeje supported Soro with 14 points and 15 boards.
“Our emphasis is being able to play a running game so we are converting Soro from a number four or five into a three,” the coach added.
Ndejje ran away with the game 12-9, 23-18, 19-15 and 27-11 through the four quarters.
Hadson Ssegamwenge, the Rez Life coach, finished the game rooted to the bench as his instructions in the earlier periods faded.
Elsewhere, Nkumba Lady Marines’ debut ended in a 76-32 loss to Magic Stormers. In today’s action, former champions Charging Rhino play their first game in the men’s Second Division, facing off with UCU JV.
Rhino were relegated from the topflight at the end of last season.
