UGANDA : Former champions Falcons hope for fresh start

Philip Ameny and Abdullahi Ramadhan will miss the start of the MTN-Fuba League as Falcons tip off against newly-promoted Vegetarian at YMCA court today. That game is sandwiched between nine others including Giant Stormers’ Division One bow against the much-talked about KIU Titans while Heaters face Nkumba Marines.
“The two will return next week,” Falcons’ chairman Denis Mbidde said. Ameny, a Kenyan forward, made all the headlines last season for playing without clearance.
Falcons lost the points they won when he played and forfeited two other fixtures. Edwin Kateregga and Douglas Uwizera have returned after a stint with the Eagles.
The record champions last won the league in 2007 and start a mile behind champions DMark Power, Warriors and UCU Canons. The road ahead is not predictable and might depend on finding new sponsors.
