NIGERIA : Warriors Beat Hoopers 75-63 to Take Lead

Defending champions of the Nigeria Premier League DSTv sponsored basketball championship, Royal Hoopers of Port Harcourt, were yesterday defeated by Dodan Warriors of Lagos.
The first quarter ended 13-13 apiece before Warriors rallied back in the second quarter to finish ahead with 37-35 points.
The Col. Sam Ahmedu boys however did not look back after the second quarter as they won the last two quarters at 55-42 and 75-63 to beat the defending champions to the second position.
Yomi Oyeniyi, Yahaya and Mohammed Biu were particularly outstanding on the part of Warriors while Usman, Farouk and Azuma of Hoopers were also a thorn in the flesh of their opponents.
With the result, Warriors have now beaten the defending champions to the second position in the Atlantic Conference.
Speaking after the encounter, Warriors mentor, Col. Sam Ahmedu explained that he was not impressed with the performance of his boys in spite of the victory.
"This is their worst game this season notwithstanding the victory in which they lost about 18 free throws. We will go back to the drawing board and perfect out strategies," he explained.
He however boasted that Warriors will beat Hoopers in the return leg in Port Harcourt.
Hoppers had on Tuesday defeated Chariot 18-11, 25-29, 50-48 and 83-62, while Islander overwhelmed the whipping team in the conference Customs by 79-73 points.
