BOTSWANA : Troopers, BDF V renew rivalry

FRANCISTOWN: Bitter basketball rivals, BDF V and Troopers meet in the match of the weekend at the University of Botswana (UB) Courts tomorrow. Basketball fans who have been thirsting for top class action could not have asked for a better game as the league enters its second week. Defending champions, Troopers, lost twice to the army boys last season. Tomorrow's game, although coming early in the season, might have a bearing on who walks away with the title at the end of the campaign.

BDF V and Troopers have exhibited scintillating basketball each time they met and tomorrow is expected to be no different. The army side will be eager to quickly get their campaign back on track after lightweights, Dolphins, blanked them 58-57 in the first match. Dolphins have rejoined the league this season after the BBA suspended them for failure to honour fixtures in the 2009 campaign. While BDF V has already started the league, Troopers will be playing their first match when the two sides match.

Unpredictable Cadets who lost their opening match 61-63 to Police take on Spartans. In the women league games played last weekend, NIIT lost to newly-registered Panthers 46-35 while BDF V humiliated Police 20-0. Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) chairperson Kabo Khama said the league started well after a long break. He said they have registered three men clubs and two in the women league. Dolphins, Jwaneng and Drillers joined the men's league while Panthers and Splinters are the new sides in the women competition. Two clubs failed to register in time for the league.
