KENYA : Nson Steers Co-Op Bank To Narrow Win


Abel Nson scored 15 points to steer Co-Operative Bank to a narrow 63-57 win over United States University - Africa Tigers in a Kenya Basketball Federation men’s Premier league match at the Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.

The banker led 33.29 in this closely contested match. Other top scorers for Co-Operative bank were Mike Makiadi (11 points and Mark Mayen (10). Evans Leting was the top points scorer for the students on 18 while Chris Mulumba had 14.

In the women’s Premier league, Co-Operative Bank rallied from 31-35 down at half time to overcome USIU-A Flames 63-60. Carol Ochieng’ scored an impressive 32 points for the bankers and Irene Wafula 12. Zippora Odhiambo replied with 21 for USIU-A Flames while Sara Chan had 16. Mennonites beat KCA University 62-54.

University of Nairobi Terrorists banked on Bill Oketch (20 points) and Brian Namalata (16) to beat Trail Blazers 69-54. Body Abuya (16) and Ian Wachie (11) replied for Trail Blazers.

The match between Ulinzi and Posta was not played. Posta have been unable to get sponsorship for the league. Their soccer counterparts were however lucky to secure a Sh6 million sponsorship from Safaricom.
