SEYCHELLES : Men’s Division One playoffs - Heat scorch Anse Etoile to stay with the big guns

THERE were wild celebrations for Beau Vallon Heat on Monday night at Victoria Gymnasium after they achieved the feat of staying in the Men’s Division One.

Coach Valli Ismaël’s Heat scorched Anse Etoile in the third match of the best-of-three playoff series on a 64-59 score to continue playing with the big guns next year.
Ninth-placed finishers in the top flight, the Heat got half of their points from Marlon Marimba, who continued his scoring spree. Before fouling out late in the game, the diminutive dreadlocked guard scored 32 points, including nine 3-pointers.
Marlon, whose twin brother Marcus is sidelined with a knee injury, also carried the Heat to victory in game two with a game-high 27 points including seven treys.
Trailing Anse Etoile 0-1 in the series after going down 67-74 last Friday at Victoria Gymnasium, the Heat stayed alive by tying the series at 1-1 with a 63-62 win on Sunday at the Palais des Sports.
In Monday’s match, Anse Etoile, who were once again paced by Christian Toulon, won the first and third quarters 22-14 and 12-11, but they were dominated 18-11 and 21-14 in the second and fourth 10-minute spells.
Asked if his team will recruit for next season after getting just three wins in 18 games in the league, Heat’s coach Ismaël said: “Right now we have achieved our first goal. We will let the joy sink in and then we will see in what areas we need to reinforce our team.”
It was a disappointing finish for Anse Etoile, runners-up to Division Two champions Mont Fleuri Dawgz, who will play in the top flight next season.
