Kampala International University (KIU) must beat Crane High School tonight to stand any chance of making the MTN-Fuba League play-offs. Following a convincing 74-66 away win against Gulu Hawks over the weekend, KIU are now within touching distance of a play-offs slot but need victory against relegated Crane High at Lugogo Indoor stadium.

KIU are flexing for a place with Uganda Christian University (UCU) Canons and a loss tonight will put paid to all their hopes of a maiden appearance in the post season.

Complex situation
The situation is so complex that even a win may not see KIU through as long as Canons defeat Miracle in their last game on Friday. If they both negotiate their fixtures, KIU and UCU will be tied on 30 points after 18 games but the latter will progress on head-to-head basis.

Should KIU win tonight and UCU falter, the former will take the last play-offs berth. Already, Kyambogo Warriors, Sadolin Power and Mogas Falcons have booked the top three places. Despite recruiting big stars in Michael Karuiki, Moses Olobo and Mande Juruni, KIU have once again failed to compete favourably with the top sides.

Basing on their unpredictability, the Kasanga-based side may even find trouble in shoving aside Crane High, who have one of the league’s leading scorers Phillip Wakimwero. Fast-improving Nabisunsa are tipped to give former champions Makerere Sparks a tough challenge in the day’s opening game.
