by Sande Bashaija
RESULTS
Miracle 64-76 Power
Sparks 53-68 Lady Bucks
Berkley 64-73 Ndejje
An outstanding performance from Joseph Ikong gave Sadolin Power a convincing 76-64 victory over Miracle Eagles in an MTN-Fuba League game played Wednesday night at Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
Signed from relegated Youth Heaters at the beginning of the season, Ikong scored a game-high 28 points including two dazzling slam dunks that earned him a standing ovation from the modest crowd.
Playing without injured skipper Isaac Afidra, Power were expected to struggle against the battle-hardened Miracle but instead made easy work of the Rubaga-based side. Miracle played to Power’s fast pace and were down 13-10 at the end of first quarter despite scoring four quick points after the tip-off whistle.
Mark Enabu and Richard Balemwa had eight points apiece as Power moved into second place with 17 points, two behind table leaders Kyambogo Warriors. Moses Otem recorded 17 and Solomon Ssali 16 but couldn’t lift their Miracle team from the bottom three.
It was another bad night for 2003 women champions Makerere Sparks as they went down 53-68 to Lady Bucks. Maureen Amonding led the six-time champions Lady Bucks with 20 points while Lyn Nalunkuma got 17 for Sparks.
