NIGERIA : Plateau Peaks sink Islanders

Lagos Islanders got their second whipping of their road games on Wednesday with a 97-59 loss to Plateau Peaks in a match played in Jos. The Islanders who are on Road Trip through the Savannah Conference in the Nigerian Premier League got their first win on Tuesday in that same mini hall used in Jos when they defeated Tapgun Rockets 64-57.

The trip opened with a big loss in Minna against the Niger Potters on Monday. The former national champions Islanders were whipped 102-63.

Peaks were the bookmakers’ favourites over the visiting Lagosians but only few may have predicted correctly such wide margin.

“We didn’t play against a fantastic side but lost to sheer bias officiating. I was ejected just as the third quarter began by the referee who performed below the least standard. And so my players were just on their own through the remaining part. Peaks players were holding, kicking and hitting and I simply pleaded that the referees took proper charge of the game and the guy was infuriated. My player was wrestled to the ground and the call was still against him. That was not a match we played against Peaks,” Ogo Odaudu the Islanders coach told FIBA.COM.

The Islanders tour continues with the match against Bauchi Nets on Thursday and then against Yelwa Hawks the following day in the same Bauchi centre before the final rounds in Kano. In Kano they will battle the Pillars on Saturday and AHIP Giants the next day.
