TANZANIA : Dar to Host Inter-Cities Basketall

by Suleiman Jongo

This year's edition of the east and central African inter city basketball championship will be staged at the National Indoor Stadium in Dar es Salaam from June 24.

The championship's coordination committee president Simon Msofe said the week-long event is expected to attract more than ten cities fielding gender balanced teams.
Msofe was optimistic that the championship will be a thriller, going by the gravity of preparations each team has been undertaking.
During the previous edition last year, Nairobi city took absolute dominance of the championship to haul both the women and men basketball titles.
Participating teams are expected from Mwanza, Arusha, Kampala, Jinja, Kisumu, Entebbe, Nairobi and the host city, Dar es Salaam.
Msofe, who holds the Basketball Dar es Salaam (BD) presidency, said the host city aims to excel in the event to make it to the podium.
Dar teams finished runners up during the Nairobi event.
"We will fight at both ends against the middle to ensure the trophy does not cross the borders," said Msofe.
Dar es Salaam teams have been consistent in competing in the rotational championship since mid 90s.
