JOSEPHINE Namayega sunk one-of-two shots from the charity line with four seconds left to give reigning champions A-1 Challenge a 42-41 win over KIU Rangers in the MTN basketball league.

A-1 Challenge overcame an early rally by the Kampala International University Rangers who had gone up 21-17 in the first two quarters on Sunday at the YMCA.

The A-1 trio of Ali Mavita, Viola Akuma and Elizabeth Kizza then teamed up to turn the tables on KIU, closing the third period on a 12-6 run that gave the champions their first lead in the game.

The fourth quarter saw Rangers come out strongly with precision passing led by Hadija Kizza, Safina Nakato and Tewin Ssemakula who sunk three-pointers at will to give Rangers a 41-39 lead with 1:12 minutes left on the clock.

KIU's lead was however short lived as A-1's Carol Mugasha sunk a 3-pointer to tie the game at 41-41 with four seconds left. The game seemed to be heading into overtime but KIU's Maimouna Nakamya earned her team a technical foul after faking an injury.

The foul call then saw Namayega bury one free-throw to win the game for A-1 Challenge.

In the men's league, defending champions Nkumba-Marines maintained their winning streak after they upset Livingstone 82-47.
